3 Things You Need to do to Keep Your Home’s Windows in Good Shape

Your windows are the eyes of your home, allowing you to see the world around you. Being a homeowner can be stressful when you’ve got so many things to keep on top of. Your roof, your garden, your plumbing and everything else seems to demand a lot from you – but your windows don’t ask for much. In fact, there are just three major things you need to do to keep your home’s windows in good shape. We’ll go through these top three things below.

1) Have them professionally cleaned

Maintenance is the key to providing a long life for pretty much anything: your car, your computer, your home and especially yourself. Windows are no different. The more often you have them cleaned and maintained, the longer they’ll reliably serve your home. Getting your windows cleaned on a regular basis helps to prevent permanent stains and handle small cracks before they get out of hand. It’s easy to notice a small crack and then forget about it… then one day, you’ve woken up to find it’s doubled in size and it looks like you’ll have to call up a glazier!

2) Paint the frames

Cleaning your windows is a great way to keep them in shape, but what about the frames that support them? It’d be pretty pointless to take care of the glass, but neglect the timber frames. Over time, your timber frames can get a little weathered which isn’t helped by the extreme Aussie climate. Applying a coat of paint and a protective layer to your timber frames helps to defend them from the scorching summer sun and the winter rain. If you’re not up for the task, simply ask your window cleaners! They’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.

3) Make a rule: no ball games near the windows!

As kids, most of us have been there before… the feeling of dread when you had to step up and tell your parents that you’d broken a window by hitting one for six in backyard cricket. If you’ve got kids, then a good way to prevent this from happening is to enforce a blanket rule: do NOT play ball games near the windows. And if you’ve got a partner who’s partial to a bit of backyard cricket after a couple of drinks, remind him that he’s not Steve Smith!
