How to Clean Sea Salt off Windows

If you’re reading this post, you either live by the beach or somebody went a little too crazy with the salt licking on tequila night. How did it end up on the windows? Nobody knows… turns out the night was a bit of a blur, right? Anyway, if you do have sea salt on your windows, chances are you’ll be wanting to clean it off. There are a couple of good ways to clean salt off your windows on your own, but for a truly spectacular and stress-free job, it’s best to contact a pro. In this post, we’ll tell you one way to clean your salty windows and explain why, sometimes, it’s best to hire someone else to do it.

The vinegar method

Using vinegar to clean salt off windows has been a handy tip for beachside residents. Fill up a spray bottle with plain white vinegar and squirt the whole window, starting at the top and working your way down to the bottom. Let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes so that the vinegar can dissolve the salt.

After that period of time, scrub the window with a sponge. Now it’s time to remove the grime with a cloth, wiping it down from top to bottom. Once you’ve done that, dilute the rest of the vinegar in the spray bottle with water and spray the window again. Then, squeegee the window, pulling it all the way down from the top of the glass.

Pros and cons of this method

The benefit of the vinegar method is that it’s a cheap and simple way to clean that annoying salt streak off your windows. It will do the job, but it won’t necessarily do a great job.

It won’t make it look like some of those before and after pictures where the glass is absolutely squeaky clean. It will look clear, but not that clear. If you want your windows to look like those satisfying ‘after’ photos, then you’ve got to hire a professional.

This method is also only appropriate if your windows are in an accessible position. You shouldn’t try squeegeeing your windows if you have to get up on a ladder or bend down in awkward positions. If this is the case, then please contact a professional window cleaner. They have the right equipment and safe techniques to get the job done – and you won’t be at risk of injuring yourself.
